Case 14

Selected work/Intervention decisions

Choosing the right well intervention

IThe problem

Well opportunities competed for crews and capital. A treatment could be technically plausible and still a poor investment if the impairment mechanism, the barrier condition or the execution route was uncertain. Post-job results were rarely compared with the programme.

IIWhat we did

Diagnostic review, programme development, contractor interfaces and campaign sequencing were tied to the expected production response. Each intervention was chosen on its diagnosis, its integrity basis, its readiness and its economic case, with contingencies and the post-job evaluation written before the job.

IIIWhat it changed

Programmes said why the intervention was right as well as how to do it. Campaign learning built up because every job closed with a comparison against its forecast.

IVConclusion

Conclusion

The objective was that every intervention be chosen on its diagnosis and closed with a comparison against its forecast. It was achieved. The programme template puts the diagnosis and expected rate on the first page, post-job reviews feed the next campaign ranking, and parked candidates are kept with the evidence that would revive them.
